ixkDesign, Founder, User Researcher, and Interaction Designer, 2013 to 2014

Consulted for Austin non-profit to help them design a next-generation online giving platform. Conducted user research with journaling, contextual inquiry, and participatory interviews. Synthesized research to provide design insights for client to help them make key decisions about platform direction. Developed product concepts, user scenarios, and wireframes for an ideal software solution to meet client's objectives.

Developed personas and wrote highly-researched scenarios and user stories (based on contextual inquiries) describing the functioanlity and interactions of an enterprise support tool for a large computer manufacturer (via Projekt202). Created user workflows from these scenarios, sketched wireframes and used user testing throughout eight iterations to arrive at a clickable Axure prototype that was used by visual designers and developers to build the final application. 

Conducted usability study for a large electronics wholesaler (via Projekt202) to assess issues with current site design and test two prototype designs. Coordinated participant schedules. Facilitated remote usability tests. Created interaction transcripts for moderated and unmoderated tasks and reported detailed step-by-step findings. Performed statistical analysis of completion rates and time on task. Identified and proposed recommendations for key issues. Assembled video highlight reels using Morae and Keynote. Produced final reports in InDesign and Illustrator.

Consulted as virtual CTO and product manager for new startups. Performed needs analyses and requirements gathering. Wrote user stories and designed user interfaces. Managed both local off-shore software development teams using Scrum methodology. Designed front end user experience, architected back end systems, and launched multiple products including production dashboards for surgery centers, surgery coding/billing application, online high school fundraiser, class scheduling solution, and document management system for study abroad program. Worked as Acting VP of Technology for Front Gate Tickets and conducted search and hire of new VP of Technology after departure of previous VP.

Front Gate Tickets, Co-Founder and Lead Architect, 2002 to 2008

Bootstrapped software startup focused on the entertainment industry, which grew to 45 employees, over $50M in gross annual revenue and a presence in 19 states. Architected, developed and implemented web application and desktop software suite as well as database back end that provides ticketing capabilities to over 800 venues, artists and promoters, six major festivals, and has sold over 5 million tickets. Managed product road map and oversaw entire software life cycle from requirements gathering and design to QA and maintenance over two full product releases and migrations. Worked with security and hosting companies to maintain PCI compliance and 24/7 uptime. Provided consulting, training, and integration support for new clients, and technical support to existing clients. Other responsibilities including hiring, budget planning, and overseeing hardware procurement and inventory.

Human Code / Sapient, Senior Architect, 1998 to 2001

Lead programming teams for multiple year-long projects, ranging from e-commerce (Ishophere), computer-based training (IC2 Institute, Albertsons), Internet connected toys (Leap Frog), to PC games (Nickelodeon, Disney). Involvement on projects started with sales process, pitching appropriate technologies to clients, brainstorming solutions for given deadlines and budgets. Wrote detailed requirements and design documents. Architected, designed, and coded complex client/server applications using Perl, Java, C++ and PHP. Recruited and hired new team members., Manger of Web Development, 1997–1998

Wrote HTML, PERL and ActiveX components for database driven and dynamically updated websites. Managed Linux and Windows NT servers. Created original designs and also collaborated with clients and advertising agencies. Designed print collateral and worked with service bureaus.
